Blackmer piston compressors

Blackmer reciprocating gas compressors are the industry standard for safe, efficient, and long-lasting gas transfer and recovery. These compressors are particularly suitable for handling LPG (propane, butane), ammonia, carbon dioxide, natural gas, refrigerants, nitrogen, and many other industrial gases. Blackmer compressors are available in various models and configurations, covering both single-stage and two-stage, air- and liquid-cooled, as well as single-, double-, and triple-seal options.

Typical Applications

  • Unloading and loading of tank trucks and railcars
  • Vapor recovery
  • Industrial gas transfer and pressure boosting
  • Gas production and storage

Operating Principle

A reciprocating gas compressor operates with a piston moving inside a cylinder, creating a vacuum during the intake phase and transferring gas to the discharge side during compression. Gas flows into the compressor’s intake as the piston moves down, and during compression, the piston pushes the gas out at higher pressure. Blackmer compressors utilize efficient valves, self-sealing piston rod seals, and durable materials to ensure long service life and minimal maintenance, even under demanding conditions.

Construction and Features

  • Oil-free design: Lubrication only in the drive mechanism, not in the cylinder—prevents oil from mixing with the gas and ensures a clean product.
  • Durable materials: Ductile iron, steel pistons, thick piston rings, and needle bearings.
  • Versatile sealing options: Single, double, or triple-seal construction for safe operation with hazardous, toxic, or corrosive gases.
  • Air and liquid cooling options: Suitable for both standard and demanding applications.
  • Easy maintenance: Modular design, long service intervals, wide range of spare parts.
  • Safety: Multiple sealing options enable safe use with hazardous and toxic gases.
  • Energy efficiency: High efficiency and low energy consumption.
